Alabama man arrested after fatal shooting in Providence Walmart parking lot

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police have arrested a man from Alabama after a fatal shooting in the Walmart parking lot on Silver Spring Street on Saturday morning.

56-year-old Shawn Slaughter of Alabama is being charged with murder after a shooting that killed 51-year-old Eric Campbell who was also from Alabama.

Police said they arrived at the parking lot early Saturday morning and found Campbell in a box truck suffering from a gunshot.

Campbell was transported to the Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police said that Campbell and Slaughter appeared to have known each other, and were at the Walmart to “work on the floors” when the altercation took place.

Along with murder, Slaughter is also being charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a firearm while committing a violent crime.
