‘All hands on deck’: Smiley says Providence police will be vigilant during Pride

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Pride is this weekend and Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said Monday it will be “all hands on deck” for Providence police.
“Rhode Island Pride is one of the top prides in the country, actually, which is something I’m very proud of,” explained Smiley. “We should be pleased that Providence is seen as such an opening and embracing community.”
Smiley said they will have “adequate coverage” for the crowds that they’re expecting.
“[Providence police] will be vigilant. They’re always vigilant. There’s no extra or special threat that we’re concerned about,” said the mayor. “They always take great caution to make sure that everyone is able to enjoy a safe party.”
The Rhode Island PrideFest and Illuminated Night Parade is on June 17.
