Theta Delta Chi fraternity members at Brown University discovered a bench outside their house, which is painted as an American Flag, covered in black spray paint.

Brown University says Thursday, students called Public Safety to report the vandalism at 5:30 p.m.  They said there had been no damage when they left the residence at 2:45 p.m., but discovered it upon returning shortly after 5 p.m. The black spray paint is scribbled over the flags stars in the upper left corner, and at the bottom of the bench there are profanities describing the flag. Students walking by tell us this bench has been here for at least 5 years.

This is the second incident to occur on brown university’s campus in the past week. Last week, American flags were pulled out of the ground by protestors. Two of the people who were caught say, it was in response to the presidential election. It’s unknown if these two incidents are connected.

Brown has released a statement saying in part…" As we stated earlier this week, vandalism to American flags is in direct opposition to Brown’s values. Our campus community takes great pride in its commitment to honoring and supporting the service of our student veterans and every other member of the U.S. Armed Forces. "

A detective from Brown University Public Safety responded to the site, and the department is actively investigating.
