Newport, RI-   The American Heart Association will host its annual Heart Ball on Saturday night at the Marble House in Newport.

The event not only increases awareness about children born with heart defects, but it also raises money for life saving research for children like Lauren Landry.

Lauren was born with a complex congenital heart defect.  She has had three open heart surgeries and countless other procedures.  She is now 18 and about to deal with another major health hurdle.

Lauren may need to have a double organ transplant, but she is focusing on going to her prom and graduating from East Providence High School.

She plans on attending Fitchburg State College in the fall to become a child care specialist.
