Amtrak coaches catch fire, passengers evacuated from station
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Three Amtrak coaches caught fire outside Amtrak Station Sunday morning.
A spokesperson for Providence Police said the station on Gaspee Street had to be evacuated due to the smoke and flames around 10 a.m.
Officials said the coaches had to be moved to Harris Avenue so firefighters could safely put out the fire.
Nobody was hurt.
Amtrak police said the cause of the fire was mechanical in nature and not suspicious.
Delays are expected.
