Ancients and Horribles parade keeps July 4th quirky

CHEPACHET, R.I. (WLNE) — Every 4th of July, parades spark the traditional American spirit.
But here in Chepachet, the Ancients and Horribles parade follows a different kind of tradition.
Nancy Cole marched in the parade as a child and says this time was filled with nostalgia for the parade’s different personalities.
“Thankful for all the sacrifices that people have made for us so we can enjoy the freedom,” said Cole, of Cranston. “But when I was a kid and still – it’s the crazy part that’s the best.”
“We have floats that just represent the craziness of what’s going on the world,” said Karen Foster of Glocester.
That includes floats on topics like politics, the environment, local issues like the recently–rejected power plant proposal, and even the popular children’s song “Baby Shark.”
One family came all the way from Bristol, the home of another well-known July 4th parade.
“This one has more of a country feel, I guess,” said Keith Martin, of Bristol. “And we like the variety it gives.”
