Annual fund aims to warm Rhode Islanders in need

By Alana Cerrone
The Salvation Army launched its annual “Good Neighbor Energy Fund” to help provide energy assistance to Rhode Islanders this winter.
ABC6 StormTracker Meteorologist Kevin Coskren was a guest speaker at the kick-off event Wednesday morning.
The program provides assistance to Rhode Islanders in temporary crisis situations who can’t afford their energy bills, but don’t qualify for state or federal funds.
The fund relies on corporate and other charitable donations to reach its $500,000 fundraising goal.
Last year, donations helped more than 1,025 families pay their bill.
For every dollar you can give to the fund, your energy company will reciprocate with various matching and giving programs.
