Wisconsin’s governor says the state’s National Guard will not be deployed in Milwaukee unless the city’s police chief decides to do so.
One person was shot and wounded on the second night of protests, following Saturday afternoon’s fatal police shooting of a black man.
Six businesses were burned Saturday night in rioting.
Police say the man shot by police was holding a gun when he turned toward an officer.
Over one hundred protestors gathered near the intersection where 23-year-old Sylville Smith was shot by a police officer Saturday after Smith fled a traffic stop and pointed a handgun at a police officer.
Two dozen officers arrived at the scene Sunday evening dressed in riot gear and used an armored vehicle to transport the injured victim to the hospital.
Both the officer and Smith were African American.
Police Chief Edward Flynn said, after seeing the officer’s body cam video, he appeared to be within he bounds.
