EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — East Greenwich Superintendent Dr. Brian Ricca said antisemitic graffiti was recently discovered in a boys’ bathroom at the high school.

Ricca said the incident is “deeply troubling,” and the district is taking steps in response.

“This act of hate is deeply concerning and has no place in our schools or community,” said Ricca in a statment.

“We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students, staff, and families. Acts of discrimination, bigotry, or hate will not be tolerated,” he said.

According to officials, the graffiti was removed and reported.

The incident is under investigation by the East Greenwich Police Department’s School Resource Officer.

In addition to the investigation, the district said they will leverage this incident “as an opportunity to reinforce its values of respect, kindness, and understanding through classroom discussions and broader community conversations.”

Support services, including counseling, will be made available for any students affected by the incident.
