Arizona man charged with drug trafficking in Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island said Tuesday an Arizona man was charged with drug trafficking in Rhode Island.
U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha said 49-year-old Carl Sharp was charged in connection with the seizure of almost 10 pounds of methamphetamine shipped to the Providence area.
The drugs were sent from Arizona, California, and Nevada, according to charging documents.
Officials added that Sharp arranged to have money shipped from Rhode Island back out West and deposited over $320,000 in cash into his personal bank account between January 2022 and May 2024.
An investigation revealed that Sharp withdrew over $225,000 in cash at casinos during that same time frame.
Sharp was arrested by the Providence Police Department on July 6 and charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine.
The district attorney said Sharp was given a detention order Monday.
