Armed home invasion in Providence, 1 hospitalized

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): Police responded to 71 Potters Ave. For a report of an armed home invasion, around 2 a.m. on Monday.
Kelvin Gonzalez Casillas, 28, said he was home with his 5-year-old son and pregnant girlfriend when he heard his door get kicked in and several men entered his apartment.
Casillas said the men hit him over the head with a hammer and pistol-whipped him several times as he screamed for help.
Casillas’ girlfriend told police she locked herself in the bedroom with the young boy when one of the suspects entered the room and began searching for something.
Casilla’s said he does not know if they were searching for something specific. The intruders left with his cellphone and his car.
Casilla’s was transported to the hospital for his injuries but has since been released.
The Providence Police Department is still investigating
