Police: Arrest made after stabbing of former Fall River mayor

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Fall River police announced an arrest in the department’s investigation of the Monday stabbing of former city Mayor Will Flanagan.

Police said a person of interest was arrested at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The person who was arrested has not been identified pending formal arraignment.

Flanagan was stabbed on Hartwell Street Monday night and seriously injured, according to Mayor Paul Coogan’s office.

He served as Fall River mayor from 2010 to 2014 before losing a recall election to Sam Sutter.

Flanagan now serves as CEO of Cosmpolitan Dispensary on Hartwell Street.

He was stable at the hospital as of the last update provided by Fall River police.
