Arrests made in Fall River man’s death

Several arrests have been made in connection to a 20-year-old’s death in Fall River.

Anthony Carvalho was shot and killed March 20. Fall River Police announced Tuesday that murder charges were filed against 19-year-old Kevin Lara and 17-year-old Tavon Pires.

Pires was held without bail and Lara will be arraigned Wednesday.

Police say Carvalho was shot multiple times around 7:45 the evening of March 20 in the area of Whipple and Manton Streets. A witness said three males dressed in black fled the scene towards Osborn Street.

Carvalho was pronounced dead at St. Anne’s Hospital. 

A witness spoke to ABC6 News, saying she saw Carvalho being chased near the corner of Whipple and Osborn Streets in Fall River that night.

“The guy stood there and shot him right in the back. He jumped up like this almost fell and he ran down the hill,” said the woman.

She says she couldn’t see their faces because the shooters were wearing bandanas.

We do know one of those bullets entered a child’s playroom. The child’s mother says the bullet shattered the glass, ricocheted off a wall, and then hit her son’s toy. Her kids weren’t home at the time but they were all very upset.

Daisha Blithe’s family lives in the upstairs apartment.

“Could have went through our living room. Our bedroom is right above where there playroom is so you know we have a baby it’s just dangerous,” said Blithe.

Several other individuals, including a juvenile, have also been arrested and charged with crimes ranging from obstructing justice/misleading to being accessories to the murder, the DA’s Office announced Tuesday.
