Ash Wednesday services to be held throughout the day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The former bishop of Providence, Thomas Tobin, will lead a holy mass this Ash Wednesday at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.

Bishop Tobin is leading the mass as Providence’s last bishop, Richard Henning, accepted the role of Archbishop of Boston.

That mass is at 12 this afternoon.

Kingston Congressional Church in South Kingstown and Newman Congregational Church in Rumford continue the tradition this morning where parishioners can receive their ashes via drive thru.

Newman will offer the drive-through imposition of ashes in its parking lot in two periods, from 6:30 to 9 a.m., and from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m.

At Kingston, ashes to go will be available from 7 to 8 a.m.

An Ash Wednesday worship service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.
