Assonet man arrested on rape charges

FREETOWN, Mass. (WLNE) — An Assonet man has been arrested on rape charges by Freetown police after a collaborative investigation with Massachusetts State Police detectives.

Brendan D. Nunes, 23, was arrested October 11 and is charged with rape, drugging for sexual intercourse, strangulation/suffocation, intimidation of a witness and three counts of assault and battery.

Nunes was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bristol County House of Correction.

He is being held on $50,000 cash bail and will be arraigned Tuesday in Fall River District Court.
