At least five displaced by New Bedford garage fire
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — At least five people were displaced by a garage fire in New Bedford on Sunday.
District Chief Shawn Sivil said the Red Cross was called to assist five residents, with a possible sixth person impacted by the fire.
Sivil said crews responded to calls of a structure fire on Shawmut Avenue around 6:00 p.m., with units arriving to find the fire stemming from a garage doubling as a nail salon.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the structure, but the crews had to shut off the home’s utilities, resulting in temporary displacements.
Sivil said no one was injured in the incident, adding that the residents should be able to move back into the home on Monday.
