Neighbors upset, after discovery of at least one animal back on Westport property

WESTPORT- It’s been just a few months after multiple agency’s combed through the property at 465 American Legion highway in Westport, finding thousands of animals, dead and alive in what police called ‘deplorable’ conditions. Police confirm there is at least animal back on the property.
"An animals specialist for the town here did go on the property, he located one cow," says Sergeant Antonio Cestodio of Westport Police.
This news coming as a shock to many in Westport.
"I’m horrified. I’m sick to my stomach," says Cheryl Castonguay.
Castonguay works in the area, and like many others we spoke with, is sickened by the new discovery.
"As far as I’m concerned, it’s the equivalent of allowing someone to rent an apartment where somebody was murdered without being charged yet," she adds.
"These people think because things have been quite for a few months we can start bringing our animals back, it’s not over. I’m not going to let anyone forget," says Westport resident Christine Wiley.
Police say the town has a duty to conduct an inspection of the property.
Westport sent an animal inspector to the property. According to police, the inspector says the cow itself was in good condition and that it had adequate living conditions as well as food and water.
"Everything was okay, or within standards. Therefore there is nothing we can do at this point…It’s frustrating I’m sure. It’s frustrating for us. But at this point or at this stage of the criminal process there would be nothing that would prevent them getting an animal and bringing it up there," adds Sergeant Cestodio.
