PROVIDENCE, R.I. – An Attleboro man is driving from state to state, urging people not to elect Donald Trump.
Charlie Adler’s goal is to reach 48 states in 48 days, ending Election Day. “He’s totally unfit to be president of the United States," Adler said.
He started out by standing outside the Massachusetts and Rhode Island State Houses, with a sign reading, “America: Please don’t buy what he is selling.” Then Adler decided to take that message further – across the continental United States.
"If Hillary was running against any other candidate, I wouldn’t have done this,” he explained. “It’s only because this is such an unusual election."
Rhode Island’s Honorary Trump Chair, former State Rep. Joe Trillo, gave Adler his blessing, but doubts how much of an impact his journey will have. "Good luck with going around the country with your message,” Trillo said. “I don’t think it’s going to have any effect. I think it’s kind of an exercise in futility.”
Trillo said he prefers someone peacefully voicing their opinion as opposed to other Trump protests, which have turned violent.
Adler says even if he doesn’t change any minds, it’s all about underscoring the importance of voting. As long as his trusty car, which had gone 144,000 miles before he even started, can make it another 13,000 miles. "I have my fingers crossed," he joked.
Adler plans on finishing his journey in Connecticut on November 8. He is documenting his entire journey on Twitter and Facebook, hoping his message goes viral.
