Attleboro station to resume service on a limited basis
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has announced the partial reopening of the South Attleboro Train Station.
Next month, three inbound and outbound trains to Boston will begin starting on May 20.
According to the MBTA, the old station will handle train traffic at peak times for now, as plans for a new station are continuing to be worked on.
State Representative Jim Hawkins says the plans are complete, but logistics are being put in place for bidding and building.
In a statement on Facebook, Hawkins said:
“The use of the station for commuters comes at a critical time, as ridership is back up to pre-pandemic numbers and multiple housing complexes have been popping up around Attleboro to provide commuters with a reasonably priced option for living outside of the city where they work or study.”
Since 2021, the station has been closed because of pedestrian bridge that has since been demolished. The new station at Pawtucket-Central Falls that opened back in 2023 has since helped commuters who frequented the Attleboro station.
