Authorities question man in Mansfield for threats to President Obama

By Stephanie Vargas
The Mansfield Police department is investigating an incident where an individual threatens President Obama.
The United States Secret Service requested the Mansfield Police department to speak with an individual, who lives in the West Village Apartments on West Street, on May 15 about threats allegedly made to kill President Obama.
Upon arrival, Police and Secret Service agents attempted to make contact with the individual, whose identity is not available, but he refused to come out of the apartment and cooperate.
A negotiator from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council was called to the scene to assist but as they arrived the individual advised he was coming out of the apartment and was detained.
Officials were able to see items in plain view that caused concern so they called a Hazmat team to make sure the items did not pose a threat to the public.
The items were deemed to be non-threatening and the individual was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
Officials say criminal charges are pending and the case is under investigation.
