Authorities: Slain woman not the intended target

BOSTON (AP) — A Boston woman shot and killed while watching a street fireworks show last weekend was an unintended victim, prosecutors said at the suspect’s arraignment.

Felicity Coleman, 34, died early Sunday morning in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood when she was struck by a bullet fired by Kristian Maraj, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

Maraj, 22, was held without bail after pleading not guilty at his arraignment Monday to murder and firearms offenses. His attorney could not be reached.

Maraj was part of a group that got into a fight with another man, according to records. He left the area, but returned a short time later and started firing into the crowd, prosecutors said. Coleman, who was not involved in the earlier dispute, was struck.

Colemna was one of seven homicide victims in the city last week.

The city has now had 26 homicides this year, compared with 21 by July 5 of 2019.
