PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Certain cases of autism have been added to the list of conditions that can be treated with medical marijuana in Rhode Island.
The Department of Health made the announcement on Tuesday, but before a doctor prescribes the treatment they have to take a certain number of steps.
According to the Department of Health, physicians must consider and try other medications and consult with a child psychiatrist or pediatric neurologist.
They must also discontinue the treatment if medical marijuana is not helping the patient.
