PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — It is time for parents and students to get ready for the start of a new school year.

One of the traditional back to school activities is getting all of the school supplies, which can sometimes be hectic.

For Quenby Hughes of Providence, who was running around trying to check off two lists this year, her stress level is at an all time high.

“One of the worst things ever, I hate them,” said Hughes. But now there is a new, easier way to shop for school supplies from the comfort of your home.

It is called “one-click” shopping.

“Jet, Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon all have a similar type of tragedy that are called back to school lists and what needs to happen is the individual school registers with these retailers and they upload all of their school lists,” said Kristen Regine; Marketing professor at Johnson and Wales.

This is how it works. At Target, for example, go to the company’s school assist list page, type in your school’s zip code, select your school, and your shopping is complete.

“Then its click, click and you put in your credit card information and your done,” said Regine.

Regine says it is not only less stressful but also cheaper than heading out to the stores.

“As a parent, I’m going to spend about $114 on my school supply list. I was able to get my school supply list at Target and Wal-Mart for under $40,” said Regine.

Regine also says most online stores do not run out of products as quickly as they do when you go to the actual store.

As for Quenby, she is definitely thinking about trying out “one-click” shopping next year despite what her kids say.

Another perk is that many of the sites are offering free shipping. Again, simply type in your zip code to see if your school is taking part in “one-click” shopping program.
