Barrington School Committee accepts resignation of superintendent, terminates contract with bus company

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Barrington Public Schools Superintendent Robert Wargo offered his resignation to the town school committee, which the body accepted in their Monday night meeting.

Wargo was first appointed to the position in July of 2024.

The committee also announced the termination of their contract with Ocean State Transit effective Monday.

A breach of contract was cited in the committee’s announcement, specifically multiple instances of Ocean State Transit failing to provide requested bus security video footage.

The committee said that they will focus closely on safety requirements while considering their next school bus provider, and Ocean State Transit will not be barred from the bidding process.

Officials from Ocean State Transit have been invited to the next committee business meeting to discuss safety protocols.

An Ocean State Transit bus monitor was accused in June of sexually assaulting a student.

A second student came forward accusing the same monitor of sexual assault, and the monitor was placed on leave by Ocean State Transit.

Committee members noted the two events were not related — and Wargo did not resign in relation to the bus investigation.
