High school athletes from Massachusetts and Rhode Island are competing in a special weekend-long tournament that raises awareness and funds for ALS research. Joining the fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease today were 65 teams.

The event, held at the Mass Premier Courts in Foxboro, is named for long time high school coach ‘Wally Seaver.’ Seaver was diagnosed with ALS in 2011, and sadly passed away after some time after the first tournament.

Today Seaver’s son continues the tradition of good competition all while raising money to help find a cure.

"He was a basketball junkie. I'm a basketball junkie. He was there for the first one and loved it, but I mean he probably couldn't imagine it's grown this big in four years,” said Paul Seaver, Wally’s son.

The tournament is expected to bring in more than $10,000. All proceeds— from entry fees to tee shirt sales— benefit ALS research.
