Bellingham woman struck by lightning inside her home Wednesday

BELLINGHAM, Mass (WLNE) – Shelby Klopf, 23, was working in a room inside her Bellingham home Wednesday during a thunderstorm.

Klopf told WCVB that she reached to turn on a light in her room when she was suddenly shocked by a jolt of electricity.

That jolt of electricity allegedly came from a lightning strike, a jolt of electricity came through the wiring, and then tossed her backward.

“All of a sudden, I felt a huge boom, saw an extremely bright white light that has now affected my vision and I flew back,” Klopf said. “I’m just very happy to be alive and i’m happy to be coming home to my children tonight, because it could have gone a very different way.”

Klopf was treated and released from the hospital.

According to the Bellingham Fire Department, somehow the lightning strike left no damage to the family’s Bellingham home.
