‘Beyond unacceptable’: Parkland shooting survivor, activist David Hogg weighs in on RI assault weapons bill

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The new limitations set in the Rhode Island assault weapons ban bill prompted backlash from the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, who once championed the bill, now refer to it as the weakest ban in the country.

Now, the coalition has comments from March for our Lives co-founder, and Parkland School shooting survivor David Hogg.

In a statement, Hogg said, as a survivor, the new bill doesn’t go far enough.

He added:

I know that Rhode Islanders deserve a strong bill that not only bans the sale, but also the possession of assault weapons. It is this combination that equals public safety. The senate version does not include possession which is beyond unacceptable.

The floor vote is scheduled for two this afternoon.
