UPDATE: Bicyclist dies after being struck by a car in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – An 81-year-old cyclist has died after he was hit by a car while he was riding his bicycle Thursday morning in East Providence.
Police responded to the scene on the Wampanoag Trail near Forbes Street Thursday morning just after 10:00 a.m. and found the man on the ground with serious injuries.
The victim has been identified as Anthony Lozito of East Providence.
Police announced today that Lozito was pronounced dead after being taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
According to the initial findings of an investigation, both Lozito and the motorist were traveling south on Wampanoag Trail when the vehicle struck the rear tire of the bicycle.
The driver stayed on scene, and continues to cooperate with the investigation, according to a statement from the East Providence Police Department.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said all travel lanes were blocked on the Wampanoag Trail for a period of time at Forbes Street as crews investigated the scene.
The East Providence Police Traffic Unit continues to investigate, Chief William Nebus said.
