Biden visits Lewiston after mass shooting
LEWISTON, Maine (WLNE) — President Joe Biden spoke in Lewiston, Maine Friday following the mass shooting that killed 18 people.
President Biden visited the community following last week’s mass shooting.
The shooter, Robert Card, was found dead in the woods two days after the shooting.
The president spoke on the tragedy the community has been through, their resilience in the moment, as well as the steps needed to move forward, calling for stronger gun control legislation.
“This is about common sense, reasonable, responsible measures to protect our children, our families and our communities,” Biden said. “Because regardless of our politics, this is about protecting our freedom to go to a bowling alley, a restaurant, a school, a church without being shot and killed.”
The president is set to meet with the families of the 18 victims, and met with first responders in the area earlier in the day.
