Big Blue Bug Solutions finds a Northern Black Widow spider in Johnston.

Big Blue Bug Solutions tells ABC6 they found a Northern Black Widow spider on April 15, in one of their commercial accounts feeding box that prevents rodents from entering buildings.

The Technician went for a routine check where the feeding box is refilled with bait when he discovered the spider inside. He opened the box with a special key and there it was.

The spider was moved elsewhere and the Technician was not bitten. The spider is currently dying.

Big Blue Bug Solutions says if you encounter a spider, stay away from it and don’t handle it. If it must be moved, put on a pair of thick garden gloves and move it to a wooded area.

Tony DeJesus, Technical Director at Big Blue Bug Solutions says the Northern Black Widow is poisonous and transmits a neurotoxin when it bites.

The bite feels like a pin prick and is followed by intense pain, swelling and spasms. In about two hours, pain is felt in the abdomen and feels like an appendix attack.

DeJesus, says he has been working for the company for 38 years and this is the third Black Widow he has seen.
