Big upset begins match play at the 113th RI Amateur

A big upset to start match play at the RI Amateur as 32nd seed Claudio Soukamneuth of Johnson and Wales defeated medalist and top seed Davis Chatfield of Notre Dame 1-up.  

Soukamneuth needed to beat five others in a playoff on Tuesday just to advance to match play.  Claudio went on to win his afternoon match, advancing to the quarterfinals where he will play Eric Marchetti.  In other match-ups, Chris Delucia will play Jake Bauer, Matt Broome squares off against Bill Forcier, and Tom McCormick faces Bobby Leopold on Thursday.
