PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Congregants at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul heard from a familiar face this Ash Wednesday — Bishop Thomas Tobin.

Bishop Tobin retired in 2023 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75.

He was replaced by Bishop Richard Henning, but Henning has since taken on a new role as the Archbishop of Boston.

Reverend Monsignor Albert Kenney has been running the Catholic Diocese of Providence since Archbishop Henning was installed in Boston in October.
