Blackstone launching food drive ahead of possible interruption in SNAP benefits

BLACKSTONE, Mass. (WLNE) — The Town of Blackstone said that it and the town police department were launching a food drive to assist residents who may experience interruptions to SNAP benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown.
The town said that around 1,000 Blackstone residents were in danger of losing SNAP benefits on Nov. 1, when funding for the program runs out.
Food donation bins have been placed in the foyers of Blackstone Municipal Center and the Blackstone Police Department.
The municipal center bin will accept donations during normal business hours, while the police department will be accepting donations 24 hours a day.
All donations will be brought to he Blackstone-Millville Food Pantry, which is open from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday nights and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays.
