Blue-green algae affects ponds in Providence, Cranston

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mashapaug Pond in Providence and Blackamore Pond in Cranston should be avoided due to blue-green algae bloom, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM).
Caution is urged in all areas of the two ponds and all recreation including swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking should be avoided.
Pet owners are also urged not to let their pets swim in or drink the water.
This advisory will remain in place until further notice.
