PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The Board of Licenses has set a March 30 meeting to consider a request by Providence officials to void the business licenses of Shark Bar & Grill, which former House Speaker Gordon Fox admitted paid him $52,500 in bribes in in 2008.

Fox pleaded guilty March 3 to wire fraud, filing false tax returns and bribery. The bribery involved money Fox was paid as a vice chairman of the Board of Licenses to vote in favor of a liquor license for Shark Bar & Grill.

The administration of Mayor Jorge O. Elorza filed a petition with the board asking it to void Shark’s liquor license, license to serve food and other permits.

One of the bar’s owners has said he didn’t know about the bribe. The owners haven’t been charged.
