Bomb squad investigating after two portable toilets blown up

WASHINGTON COUNTY, R.I. (WLNE) – The state’s bomb squad is asking for help to find who’s responsible for blowing up two portable toilets in Washington County over the weekend.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad said explosive devices were detonated in portable toilets in Charlestown and Westerly on Saturday, August 17.

The state bomb squad is working with Charlestown Police and Westerly Police along with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to find who is responsible for the blasts.

No one was injured, and the bomb squad said there’s no indication that the incidents are linked to terrorist activity.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call the state bomb squad hotline at 401-383-7723. 

Citizens are asked to remain vigilant and call 911 when seeing any suspicious activity.
