Civil War-era cannonball found in Mansfield home

MANSFIELD, Mass. (WLNE) — A Civil War-era cannonball was found inside of a Mansfield home Thursday.

Police said family members were cleaning out the Charlene Drive home that belonged to their late father when they discovered the relic.

In a Facebook post, police said the Massachusetts State Police’s bomb squad took an x-ray of the cannonball and found an unknown substance inside.

The cannonball was then destroyed just after 10 p.m. in a controlled demolition at the Mansfield Police Department’s firing range.
