Boston Celtics sold to new ownership group for $6 billion

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The owners of the defending NBA Champion Boston Celtics are passing the ball to a new ownership group.

According to ABC6 affiliate WCVB5 and their Sports Anchor Duke Castiglione, the Celtics ownership group has agreed to sell the Green to a new group headed up by William Chisholm for $6 billion, and up to $6.6 billion.

Chisholm, a Massachusetts native, is the managing director and co-founder of Symphony Technology Group.

Current owner Wyk Grousbeck and his group bought the team in 2002 for $360 million, winning two NBA titles in 2008 and 2024.

The Celtics announced their intentions to sell the team shortly after winning the NBA Finals in 2024.
