Boston doctor arrested for allegedly pleasuring himself next to a minor on a plane

BOSTON (WLNE) — A Boston doctor was arrested and charged Thursday for allegedly masturbating and exposing himself to a 14-year-old girl sitting next to him on a flight back in 2022.

Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, 33, was charged with one count of lewd, indecent and obscene acts while in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States.

According to charging documents, Mohanty is an internal medicine and primary care doctor with a practice in Boston.

Documents allege that on May 27, 2022, Mohanty was a passenger on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu to Boston with a woman.

Mohanty was allegedly seated next to a 14-year-old girl traveling with her grandparents who were seated nearby.

Documents further allege that about halfway through the flight, the minor saw Mohanty cover himself with a blanket and that his leg was bouncing up and down. Shortly after, it is alleged that the blanket was no longer covering Mohanty and she said he was pleasuring himself.

After arriving in Boston, the minor informed her family members about what happened and police were notified shortly after.

Mohanty faces a possible sentence of up to 90 days in prison, up to one year of supervised release and a fine of up to $5,000.
