BOSTON (AP) _ A Boston police captain's son accused of plotting to commit an act of domestic terrorism by detonating a bomb at a university and killing as many Americans as possible has been ordered to remain behind bars while he awaits trial on a gun charge.
Prosecutors say Alexander Ciccolo received four guns from a person cooperating with the FBI. He was arrested July 4.
His father is veteran police Capt. Robert Ciccolo, who alerted the FBI after his son said he wanted to join the Islamic State group. The police captain was not in court for his son's detention hearing Tuesday.
Ciccolo mouthed “I love you” to his mother, seated in the front row.
Prosecutors played a portion of an FBI interview in which Ciccolo expresses support for the Islamic State.
Ciccolo's parents say they're “saddened” to learn of his intentions.
