EAST PROVIDENCE, RI_ United States Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed announce federal funding for Bradley Hospital.

The hospital will receive over $168 thousand dollars from the Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education Payment Program to help expand the program. The expansion will include children’s psychiatric teaching hospitals.

Bradley Hospital first asked for the funding in 2002 but was told they did not qualify because only children’s hospitals were eligible.

Both Senators have been fighting to change the law for years. The funding is a result of that change.

The money will help support Bradley’s medical residency training program. This program will help train doctors qualified to treat mental illness.

Whitehouse said “Mental health care is just as important as physical health care, but is too often forgotten or ignored.”
