DARTMOUTH, Mass. – A former major league pitcher has been named head coach of a high school baseball program in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Brian Rose, a major league baseball veteran, was appointed head coach Wednesday at Bishop Stang High School, a Roman Catholic school in his hometown of Dartmouth, Mass.

Rose played at Dartmouth High School.

Bishop Stang’s Athletic Director says Rose was chosen because of his “knowledge and experience.”

In a statement, Rose said he looks forward to being not just a coach, but a role model and mentor.

After being selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 1994 draft, Rose played five years in the majors, where he also played for the New York Mets, Tampa Bay and Colorado.

He currently works at the Bristol district attorney’s office.
