Brides say travel agent cheated them out of thousands of dollars

Two brides are scrambling to re-book their destination weddings after they say a Dartmouth travel agent cheated them out of tens of thousands of dollars.
ABC 6 News has learned that multiple complaints have been filed with both the Attorney General’s office and Dartmouth Police about Terry’s Travel.
Kristine Mello and Jeffrey Ferreira are one of the couple's effected. They are supposed to be getting married in Mexico Riviera on August 8th.
The couple and around 50 guests booked their trip with Terry's Travel. Combined, we’re told they've all spent about $70,000 mostly in cash. But, despite paying for their trip in full they learned this week that their hotel and flight payments were never made.
Mello says she confronted the agencies owner as soon as she found out.
"She said well I'm just waiting for the airline to send me the tickets so I can print them out for you, just give me two to three days,” said Mello.
When Mello returned she found a sign saying closed for family emergency.
This couples story isn't the only one. ABC 6 News caught up with another bride set to be married in 7 weeks in Punta Cana.
Sarah Bettencourt says the same thing happened to her and her guests.
"A year we have been planning. I mean I'm on pinterest every single night. We have everything planned out,” said Bettencourt.
She says her and her fiancé don't have the money to re-book and aren't sure now whether they'll even be able to get married in Mexico.
"I'm very worried because I feel like we are definitely not going to be able to have our wedding now,” said Bettencourt
We did reach out to the owner of Terry's Travel for comment. So far, those calls have gone un-returned.
Ferreira and Mello set up a go-fund me page in the hopes of helping their guests to raise money so they will be able to re-purchase tickets. http://www.gofundme.com/2t5nkh6ne6
