Bridge repair and painting on Route 140 Bridge over Hathaway Road in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be starting bridge repair on the Route 140 Bridge over Hathaway Road in New Bedford. The work will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 22, and should be finished early 2023.

The work is scheduled weekly, Monday through Friday during 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will include substructure repairs and re-painting of the bridge. Nightly work is expected to begin spring 2022. Please note all construction will be suspended from 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, through 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29, due to the Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

There will be no daytime lane closures. Nighttime work will use police details and traffic control measures including temporary lane closures.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency situation.
