Bridgewater Police warn public of arrest warrant scam
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bridgewater Police Department said residents should be aware of an arrest warrant scam involving a person impersonating a police officer.
The scammer will claim to be an officer, and may even have a fake Caller ID, and say that the called resident had warrants out for their arrest due to missing Federal Grand Jury.
The scammer instructs the victims to purchase multiple Green Dot MoneyPak cash cards using cash only, and then read the card’s numbers over the phone giving them access to the money on the card.
The department said police will never contact a community member via phone requesting payment of any type to avoid arrest.
Anyone who receives a call from a scammer is advised to hang up.
Anyone who has received a call can contact the department at 508-697-6118.
