BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — The Bristol Landfill Solar Project officially opened on Thursday.

Developer NuGen Capital Management, LLC, said the project is located at the Bristol landfill and is expected to produce renewable energy equal to that produced by over 700 homes and businesses.

The energy produced by the site’s 20,692 solar panels will be purchased by Toray Plastics, which produces “high-quality films” and said it is the highest energy consumer in the state.

“This project underscores our unwavering dedication to sustainable growth and investment in the communities where we operate,” Toray President, CEO, and COO Christopher Roy said.

NuGen added that the construction of the project created around 130 jobs.
