One arrested after Bristol standoff, scene now safe, police say
BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE)- The scene of a standoff that lasted about five hours in Bristol is now safe, according to police.
The scene started around 1:30 a.m., after a man witnessed what he believed to be a domestic incident happening in a nearby car. He followed the car into town and watched as the couple went into a home on High Street.
The man, now identified as 32-year-old Ari Brisbon involved in the domestic incident came out of the home with a long gun and fired multiple shots at the witness, who was then parked in front of the home.
One of the shots grazed the witness’ shoulder, but he is okay.
Brisbon then went back into the home with the woman inside and closed the door.
Police were on the scene and called Rhode Island State Police for backup.
State police responded with tactical units.
Officials on the scene approached the home at around 6 a.m., at which point Brisbon came out willingly and unarmed.
Police arrested him and also took the woman in for further questioning.
The department plans to obtain a search warrant for the home.
Officials said that Brisbon does not have a record.
Brisbon recently purchased the long gun, which is why police responded so strongly, officials said.
