Brown University is saying there is no evidence that a student accused of drugging two female students was given preferential treatment because his father his on the school’s board of trustees.

In an open letter, President Christina Paxson denied that the student’s family ties influenced the school’s decision not to pursue disciplinary charges.

Brown recently dropped its inquiry into drugging and rape allegations by two female students who attended a Phi Kappa Psi frat party.

The letter comes a week after students protested what they called a “mishandling” of the case.
