Brown Releases Basketball Schedule for Coming Season

Brown news release…
Providence, R.I. – Brown head men’s basketball coach Mike Martin has put together a 30-game men’s basketball schedule that includes a record 16 home games, including nine non-league home games at the Pizzitola Sports Center. This year’s schedule also includes the first-ever Ivy League Postseason Tournament to determine the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
"We believe this schedule will give our team great preparation for the Ivy League,” said Martin. “We are very pleased to be able to play the other three Division I programs in our state, along with participating in a terrific early season tournament, while also playing nine non-league home games."
Brown’s Division I Ocean State schedule begins at URI on November 16 as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic, and continues at Providence on December 6, in addition to hosting Bryant on November 28.
Highlighting the non-league schedule are games in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic with the Bears opening the season at Cincinnati on November 11. The Bears move on to face Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I., on November 16 and complete play in the Tip-Off Classic against Marist and Albany at the Mohegan Sun Arena on November 19 and 20.
Brown tips-off its home schedule on Monday, November 14, hosting Niagara at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Coach Martin’s squad will also play non-league home games against Morgan State (11/23), Bryant (11/28), St. Francis (NY) on 11/30, Emerson (12/9), Johnson & Wales (12/10), Maine (12/22), Quinnipiac (12/29) and a New Year’s Eve matchup against Stony Brook (12/31).
Prior to its Ivy schedule, Brown will also play non-league games at Central Connecticut (12/3) and NJIT (1/4).
With the first ever Ivy Tournament being held on March 11-12 at the Palestra in Philadelphia, the Ivy season takes on increased importance with the top four teams earning a tournament berth.
The Bears will play five of their first six Ivy League games on the road, opening on January 13 and 14 at Princeton and Penn.
Brown faces defending Ivy League Champion Yale to open its Ivy home schedule on Friday, January 20. Coach Martin’s team will also host Ivy home games against Harvard and Dartmouth (February 10 & 11), Penn and Princeton (February 17 & 18) and conclude the regular season against Columbia and Cornell (March 3 & 4).
