Brown news release…
Providence, R.I. – Brown junior forward Cedric Kuakumensah (Worcester, MA) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after leading the Bears to a 77-67 win over defending Big East Champion Providence College at the Dunkin Donuts Center, its second win over the Friars in the last three years.
Kuakumensah, the Ivy League’s two-time Defensive Player of the Year, was responsible for Brown taking control of the game in the opening half, scoring 10 of the Bears’ first 17 points as the Bears pulled ahead by a 17-10 margin. He also gave Brown the lead for good with 8:38 remaining, when he connected on a trey coming out of a timeout after Providence tied the game, to give the Bears a 47-44 lead.
Defensively, Kuakumensah controlled the paint with seven rebounds and two blocked shots. He scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, including two of three from beyond the three-point arc.
Kuakumensah, who starred at the St. Andrew’s School in Barrington, RI, set a new Ivy League record with 93 blocked shots last year, and holds the Brown school record for blocked shots in a career with 182, which rank seventh best in Ivy basketball history.
The Bears are back in action again on December 22 at Central Connecticut. Tip-off is 2pm.
